Carlos Basso (Vina Amalia) Malbec Reservado

About the Wine

This is Carlos Basso’s version of the traditional Argentine Malbec, full-bodied, rich, and flavorful to the last taste.  Malbec, once a grape found only in France, was first introduced to the region in the mid 19th century and is now considered the national wine of Argentina.  The Malbec grape tends to have an inky dark color with robust tannins, though the Argentine version is smoother, and is long known as one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine.  As the Argentine wine industry discovered the unique quality of wine that could be made from this grape, Malbec rose to greater prominence and is today the most widely planted red grape variety in the country, as it has its own great taste yet blends well with other red wine varietals.   One of the best Malbecs on the market today at a very reasonable price.

Tasting Notes

Smooth, fruity, and a touch earthy on the nose, with pure raspberry, plum, and cassis in proper doses.  Quite comfortable across the palate, where juicy acids wrestle with full tannins.  Finishes big, with chocolate.

Hint: Malbec wine goes best with red meats such as roast beef, steak and prime rib. It also goes well with roast turkey and chicken.  Mexican, Cajun, Indian and Italian foods, especially those with rich tomato sauces, also complement Malbec wine.  Not for the weak of heart!
