About the Wine:

 

Every ACORN wine is made from grapes grown on site. Every ACORN wine is a “field blend.”  That means multiple grape varieties are grown together, harvested together, crushed, and co-fermented. The melding of flavors from the different grapes starts at the very beginning of the winemaking process — on the day the grapes are planted to the day they are picked. The intriguing mix of varieties inter-planted since 1890, and the complex wine that mix produces, inspired us to continue the field blend tradition when ACORN planted more vineyards. Complementary varieties were inter-planted along with the major varieties. ACORN believes that field-blending creates especially complete and complex, delicious, food-friendly wines.

 

Wine Type: Red

Varietal: 29% Syrah, 23% Zinfandel, 13% Alicante Bouschet, 10% Cinsaut, 8% Muscats, 5% Dolcetto, 5% Petite Sirah, and 7% other varieties.

 

 

Tasting Notes:

 

Inviting aromas of fresh-squeezed raspberry and strawberry are layered with spicy plum and earthy floral notes. The bright, fruit-forward entry showcases mixed red berries and a touch of rhubarb mid-palate. Dark striations of spicy cherry, dark plum, and vanillin oak fill in the finish as the flavors linger. Integrated supple tannins and oak provide a solid foundation. PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Try this delicious, harmonious blend with vegetable Bolognese over pappardelle, a juicy lamb burger, or spinach, berry, and pistachio salad.

"ACORN threw everything but the kitchen sink into its delightful Medley red blend. There's a shot of Syrah, a dash of Zinfandel, a splash of Alicante Bouschet, a pinch of Cinsault, a bit of Muscat, an equal splash of Dolcetto and a small percentage of "other." And it's delicious. Judges at the 2014 Sommelier Challenge thought so, too, awarding Medley a platinum medal and 94 points.
