Carlos Basso Sparkling Brut (Blush)

About the Wine

Many don't realize it, but Argentinians are some of the world's most devoted consumers of sparkling wine.  Note: Remember, you can'’t call it “Champagne” or the French will go crazy!  Only a small amount makes it out of the country, and the higher end versions, without question the country's best kept secret, are difficult to find.  Carlos Basso’'s Tunuyan vineyard, located at the base of the Andes Mountains at well over 3,000 feet, produces lovely Argentine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with their warm days and chilly nights, forming the heart of this exciting and tasty blush, but not sweet, Sparkling Brut.

Tasting Notes

As you would expect from the quantity of Pinot Noir in the blend (80%), this

wine is a beautiful light salmon in color, and traditional elevage produces fine, persistent bubbles.  Although blush, it is on the drier side rather than sweet, which it why it is called a Brut” Sparkling wine.  Aromas and flavors of plum, apricot, and cherry dominate the palate and a toasty finish almost makes you want to scream the word "Champagne ". . . but don’'t you dare!  Remember, the French are listening!

Note: We kid the French, but where would wine be without the French mon ami.
