Acorn Axiom Syrah

About the Wine

Acorn Winery, a small sustainable winery in Russian River Valley, California, is owned and operated by Betsey & Bill Nachbaur. Their goal is to produce traditional field-blends (where grapes are interplanted, harvested, and co-fermented together), creating approachable, food-friendly wines made in the old-world style. This Syrah is made from three distinct Syrah clones, which were interplanted with Viognier to co-ferment to enhance aroma and stabalize color in the style of the Rhone Valley’s Cote Rotie. A smooth and well balanced Syrah with just the right amount of a spice to liven the palate.

Varietal: 98% Syrah/2% Viognier
Wine Type: Red Wine
Origin: Russian River Valley, California
Elaboration: Hand harvested grapes, aged 20 months in French and Hungarian oak.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of blackberry, chocolate, aqnd a touch of licorice mingle with a subtle yet intriguing blend of black pepper, smoky oak, and new leather. The smooth entry showcases ripe blackberry and spciy mocha, which retains a prominent role front to finish. Dark roasted coffee, anise, and blueberry appear mid-palate, with a hint of orange revealed in the lingering finish. Try pairing with chipotle orange pork chops or roasted eggplant caponata.
